We'll do all the hard work and sell your items on eBay for you
Then we'll send you a cheque in the post
So how exactly does it work?
We are a local auction house in Swindon, Wiltshire. We save people time by selling their items on eBay on their behalf in a professional manner. All you have to do
is bring the items you want to sell to our offices at BSS House on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate in Swindon, Wiltshire and our staff will handle the rest.
First of all, you need to establish if the item you want to sell has any value and meets our acceptance criteria. We only accept items for sale that are worth at least £50. You may be able to combine similar items into a job lot if they are not worth £50 individually. There is a higher value threshold for furniture and other large items, please check with us. We would advise you either email or call us to check the potential value and acceptability of your item before dropping off goods. Some items are on the eBay exclusion list and we can't help you with those - ivory, weapons, knives and Nazi memorabilia are just a few examples of things that cannot be sold.
When you arrive at our office, our staff will :
Check the value and acceptability of your item
Ask you to complete our Order Form and sign up to our Terms and Conditions
We will then :
Take professional photographs of your items
Research your item and write a detailed description
List your item for sale on eBay
Answer any questions from bidders
Chase and collect payment from the winning bidder
Pack and ship your item to the winning bidder (buyer pays for postage)
Deal with any after-sales questions
Finally, we send you a cheque in the post of the sale value achieved, minus our commission
Our staff will give you instructions on how to follow the auction of your item on eBay (if you have a computer) so you can see people bidding for your item. There's nothing more exciting than the spectacle of a bidding frenzy for goods which belong to you! The next thing you know, a cheque arrives in the post from Let Us Auction It and you can spend your newly found cash on something you really need. Alternatively, we can transfer the money directly into your bank account if you prefer.
Who is your typical customer?
Most of our clients fall in the following categories :
Busy professional people : they treasure their leisure time. The last thing they want to do when they get home from work is spend hours trying to figure out how to sell their valuables on eBay, they would rather go out for a meal, go to the gym, spend time with their family or go down the pub with their friends.
People with limited computer skills : they perhaps have a computer, but their computer skills are limited to sending and receiving emails, browsing the Internet and other simple tasks. They may have heard of eBay and perhaps have even bought a few things online, but working out how to sell on eBay is probably beyond them. Many of them struggle just to keep their computer virus free.
People who recognise the power of the worldwide eBay audience : they recognise that traditional auction houses often attract small audiences these days and realise that a much larger worldwide audience of more than 200 million eBay users is likely to get them a better price. They value the professional way we operate, taking advantage of our experience and tricks-of-the-trade.
Business Owners : they may have surplus stock, office equipment or machinery to dispose of and we can help them get the best price quickly and with the minimum of hassle. Some may be closing down the business and prefer to sell everything in one transaction rather than have a long, drawn out closing-down sale.
House clearances : when a relative dies, the task of clearing the house and disposing of goods left behind is normally left to family members and this can be an extremely stressful and emotional time. People are generally very unsure which items may be valuable and often the most valuable items are thrown away. This makes sense, because items that people tend to throw away become rare for exactly that reason. We can help with identifying items that have value, and help you get the best price for them.
People who are moving abroad : most people who move abroad will generally leave most of their belongings behind. It is much easier to buy everything new (or second hand) in the country you are moving to, rather than pay for hugely expensive transportation of your goods to the new country. We can coordinate the sale of their goods so that it all sells just before they move out.
People who are downsizing : many people often move to a smaller property later in life when the children have flown the nest. This normally uncovers a large surplus of items accumulated over the years that are just no longer needed or may not even fit in the new house. We can help with the disposal of these items.
People with an eye for a bargain : we have many customers who have a lifetime of experience hunting for bargains at car boots, antique markets and local auctions. They find the bargains, and then bring them to us to sell on eBay. While we are doing this for them, they can be out looking for more bargains. The focus on what they are best at, buying something worth £500 for less than £10.
Why shouldn't I just do it myself?
Of course, many of our customers could probably do it themselves. Some come to us to save time, some because they recognise we will do a better job than them. We have built up a large audience of eBay buyers across the world during the 7 years we have been selling on eBay. Many of these return to our eBay shop week after week to see what new items are for sale. They know it is a different selection every week and they never know what is going to turn up next, this drives them back to our eBay shop again and again. And because they have bought from us before, and had a great professional experience, they are happy to buy again.
Then there are what we call the tricks-of-the-trade. Just like a plumber or an electrician have tricks up their sleeves, so have we. The quality of the photographs we take is exceptional, we know when an auction should start and when it should finish, we provide potential bidders with all the information they could ever need about the item being sold. We have an excellent eBay feedback rating and our professional image ensures that potential bidders trust us. Would you buy an item worth £5000 from an eBay seller with no track record? We wouldn't and nor would most people.
The net effect of all this is that when we sell an item, it is virtually guaranteed to sell for more than it would if you did it yourself and this difference can go a long way towards the commission you pay us. And don't forget that all you have done is dropped the items off with us, we have done all the hard work.
What if I live too far away?
If you live too far away from our Swindon office, we may still be able to help you. We have sold items for customers living in Scotland, Germany and even customers from further away. You can post or ship the items or have them delivered by a courier or removals firm. Please read our Terms and Conditions and call us to make arrangements before sending items to us. If we are not expecting them, they will be refused.
